Moonhallow Vintage
Halloween Folk Art - by Jan Pierce

Odelia is one of the 13 witches that make up the Order of Moonhallow. Every 7 years, the Order of Moonhallow gathers to perform the ancient rite that results in the creation of their new minions, the Wicked Weeds. 12 of the witches must provide one of the ingredients for the spell. The 13th witch combines them all as she chants the ancient words of Sam Hane - the oldest member of the Pumpkin race.

Odelia gathers the first item required -- Grave Dust -- under the watchful eye of the menacing waning moon. You see her here by the old iron gate next to the tombstones of those long forgotten. A few bats swoop around a creepy old tree. Crisp autumn leaves crunch under her feet as a foreboding wind rattles through the tree branches. A perfectly wicked scene!

This Halloween vignette is the first in the Order of Moonhallow series by Jan Pierce. It will come to you signed, dated and numbered.

About the scene:
Odelia's face has been hand sculpted and hand painted. It is framed by natural curls of white wool. Her body and hat have been made of fabric that has been hardened and grunged. Her cloak is also made of fabric that has been given a prim treatment. She carries a hand carved walking stick, and a hand crafted primitive bag to hold her grave dust.
Tombstones made of hardened fabric pop up from a hand sculpted base. All have been grungied for that mossy look found on really  old headstones.
The creepy freestanding tree has been hand crafted from grapevines and clay. Its hand sculpted face peeks from behind the tombstones.
A tin moon has been hand painted with a sinister smile and attached to a rusty iron fence. 3 hand made bats attached to coiled wire wiggle in the breeze.
The wooden base has been given 4 old wood knobs as feet. It has been painted with our prim spice mix for a spooky look.
A sepia toned hang tag has been attached. It shows this scene, and tells Odelia's story. It also includes the Wicked Weeds poem that can be found here ---> Wicked Weeds

All of the pieces in this large scene are removable and can be displayed separately if you desire - it is easier and less expensive to ship this way!

About the Artist

Jan Pierce is a Chester County, PA artist who creates one of a kind (OOAK) folk art treasures. Hand painted lamps, trays and found objects join hand sculptured dolls, paintings and jewelry in an eclectic selection of artwork. Her traditional Halloween style continues to delight collectors of vintage and contemporary Halloween Art alike. Some of her work is inspired by images found on vintage Halloween ephemera. Some is a natural manifestation of her love for this sinister holiday.   Most of her artwork is done on functional items. Boring or outdated items that have been cast off are transformed into unique treasures that will be loved for many years to come. Because she doesn't restrict her work to canvas or paper, her items are usually one of a kind. Occasionally, as with her miniature paintings, she will make a few prints, but even these will be limited. All works are signed and dated by the artist.
